An Empty Parade

Criston Cole parades the body of Meleys through King’s Landing. The onlookers, including Hugh, are troubled, having thought dragons to be gods. Criston Cole asks his best friend Gwayne Hightower, “Don’t they realize we won the battle?” Alicent Hightower and Aemond Targaryen share a strange moment.

Aegon Returns Home

A box carrying Aegon II Targaryen is carries through the Red Keep past Helaena Targaryen. The King is badly burned to the brink of death, and Alicent Hightower watches them peel the armor from his melted skin. The Maesters shoo Alicent away to let them work. Aemond Targaryen arrives to say someone must rule in his stead.

Criston reports that he left Rook’s Rest garrisoned, but Alicent Hightower gets to the root of the question and asks what Aemond Targaryen’s role was in Aegon II Targaryen’s fall.
