Episode One begins with Rhaena Targaryen coming upon the wild dragon Sheepstealer.  As he consumes a lamb, she manages to climb his horned back.  He immediately takes off with her hanging on for dear life.

Aemond Targaryen drags Grand Maester Orwyle into a room and threatens to cut off his head for helping Aegon II, his brother, escape the castle.  Orwyle is spared when Aemond is told that Larys Strong is also missing.

Larys Strong and Aegon Targaryen are travelling in a carriage.  Aegon wants milk of the poppy for his pain, but Larys says that in their haste to leave, he didn’t bring any.  Aegon moans about his situation claiming to be the king of nothing.

Their carriage is stopped by men loyal to Rhaenyra.  They demand fealty to the Black Queen.  Larys bends the knee but Aegon refuses.  Larys admits who they are, pulling Aegon’s crown out of a bag as proof.  He convinces the soldiers not to kill them because they will be valuable as hostages for ransom.

The peasants in their company are all slaughtered to keep the secret that Aegon has been captured, and plans are laid to bring him to Duskendale, and then Dragonstone to face Rhaenyra's judgment.

Rhaenyra tries to convince her son Jacaerys (Jace) that Alicent’s plan for her to take King’s Landing is not a trap.  He is not convinced.  She then tells the Black Council of this plan and that they will leave in two days to take the city.

Alicent returns to King’s Landing from Dragonstone and is told that the King wants an audience.  She starts heading to Aegon’s chambers but is directed instead to the throne room and finds Aemond on the Iron Throne.

Aemond tells her that Aegon has abdicated the throne and left with Larys.  He wants to know where she has been.  After a pause she says she was in the Kingswood because she has found herself of little use at the castle.

Alicent asks why Aemond is not at Harrenhal and is told it is because Aegon has left him no choice but to stay and defend the city.  He explains that the Hightower’s are marching with 15,000 men and the Triarchy are coming with their fleet to end the blockade.

Corlys Velaryon stands at the rail of his ship, Queen That Never Was, looking out over the blockade.

Daemon walks through a bloody battlefield at the tail end of the Battle of the Red Fork in the Riverlands.  There’s a brief debate with Lord Oscar Tully about the rivermen’s need to bury their dead and Daemon’s solution of having his dragon burn their remains.

Tully believes that Lord Jason Lannister has fled and plans to regroup his forces at the Gods Eye lake beside Harrenhal.  In the distance they hear another host arriving.  They prepare for battle only to find it is the Winter Wolves of Winterfell who defeated the remaining Lannister’s.  Lord Roderick Dustin presents Daemon with the Lannister severed head and declares they have come to die for the dragon Queen.
